Description

The term "crampon" (often called couteau or ski crampon in French) in this context refers to the serrated metal blade that is inserted into the ski touring binding for climbing.

Main Function

  • Grip on Hard Snow/Ice: The main function of the ski crampon is to provide crucial grip when skins can no longer do so, typically on very hard snow, icy sections, or steep slopes.

  • Safety on the Climb: The ski crampon sinks into the snow with each step, preventing the ski from slipping sideways and thus ensuring the skier's stability and safety.

"102 mm" Specification

  • Width: The number 102 mm represents the internal width of the crampon.

  • Compatibility: It is designed to be used with skis whose waist (the width underfoot) is a maximum of 102 mm.

    • Example: If your ski has a 101 mm waist, the 102 mm crampon is the perfect choice. If your ski has a 105 mm waist, you will need to choose the 108 mm model.

Characteristics of ATK Crampons

ATK ski crampons are highly valued by the ski touring community for their lightweight and performance features:

  • Lightness: They are made from a robust aluminum alloy and are among the lightest on the market for their size (the 102 mm model weighs approximately 74 g per unit).

  • Aggressive Design: The points are often aggressively designed to ensure maximum penetration and grip even on the hardest ice.

  • ATK Universal Compatibility: They are compatible with all ATK bindings that have the standard hook or slot for ski crampons (which is the case for the majority of their models such as Kuluar, Raider, or Crest).

If you own ATK bindings, the 102 mm crampon is the accessory you need to tackle hard snow conditions with narrow or medium-waisted skis.
