Description
The Head Crux 87 Pro is the narrowest and lightest option in Head's Crux Freerando range. It is designed for skiers who prioritize climbing efficiency and hard snow performance, while benefiting from the lightweight and powerful construction of the Crux series.
It is ideal for long ascents, spring tours, or whenever speed and altitude gain are the priority.
The Crux 87 Pro is a very high-performance touring ski, more geared toward mountaineering and conditions where the snow is firm or transformed.
| Feature | Specification |
| Program | Light Touring / Alpine Touring |
| Level | Advanced / Expert |
| Weight (ref. 170 cm) | Approx. 1195 g (ski alone, one of the lightest in its category) |
| Construction | Triaxial Carbon, Graphene, Karuba Core (LYT Tech) |
| Key Technologies | Topless Tech, Tail Notch |
| Waist Width | 87 mm (Excellent for traversing and hard snow) |

Turn Radius (Radius of Curvature)
Despite its moderate width, the Crux 87 Pro maintains a medium/long turn radius, confirming that Head has not sacrificed stability and the ability to make large, fast turns on the descent.
The radius increases with length:
| Ski Size | Sidecut (mm) | Turn Radius (m) |
| 163 cm | 127 / 87 / 110 | 15.2 m |
| 170 cm | 127 / 87 / 110 | 16.9 m |
| 177 cm | 128 / 87 / 111 | 18.7 m |
| 184 cm | 128 / 87 / 111 | 20.6 m |
Highlights
Minimalist Weight: The weight under 1200 g places it among the lightest skis for this width, offering exceptional ascent efficiency.
Grip and Precision: The 87 mm waist allows for quick edge-to-edge transition and excellent grip on hard snow, ice, or in narrow couloirs.
Downhill Stability: The radius of 16.9 m to 18.7 m is long for a ski of this width, guaranteeing stability at high speed and the ability to execute medium to long turns, which is essential in touring where downhill conditions can be highly variable.
The Crux 87 Pro is the ideal choice for experienced touring skiers who prioritize time gain and endurance on the ascent, while having a ski capable of remaining high-performing and secure on the descent.
