Description

The "Tongue C.A.S." (or C.A.S. Tongue) refers to a key component of the ski boot customization technology developed by Tecnica.

C.A.S. stands for Custom Adaptive Shape.

Role and Functionality

Tecnica's C.A.S. technology is used to customize the shell and liner of the boots (such as the Mach1 and Cochise ranges). The application of this technology to the tongue was introduced to solve specific fit problems at the shin and instep.

Role of the Tongue

The tongue is a crucial element of a ski boot because it:

  • Ensures flex: It is responsible for transmitting force from your shin to the front shell, determining how the ski reacts.

  • Ensures comfort: It protects the shin and instep against pressure points.

C.A.S. Technology Applied to the Tongue

A C.A.S. tongue is not a standard tongue. It is designed with an anatomical shape and is often constructed with materials that allow for thermal and mechanical customization:

  • Thermoformable Material: The tongue is made of a material that can be heated and then molded around the user's shin and instep by a professional bootfitter.

  • Anatomical and Pre-shaped Form: It features curves and pre-formed zones to better adapt to the natural curve of the shin and to eliminate common pressure areas.

  • Custom Padding: The interior of the tongue (often the foam) can be adjusted or modified to relieve sensitive areas such as the instep bone or the tibial crest.

Advantages

The use of a C.A.S. Tongue allows for:

  • Reduction of Pressure Points: Helps eliminate shin pain often caused by poorly fitting tongues.

  • Better Power Transmission: Once molded, it ensures more complete and firmer contact with the shin, which improves ski responsiveness.

  • Volume Adjustment: It can help a bootfitter fine-tune the volume fit around the instep.

The Tongue C.A.S. is therefore a high-end feature found on Tecnica boot liners (Mach1, Cochise, Zero G) that allows for advanced customization for maximum comfort and performance.
