Description
The Madshus Panorama M55 is positioned in the middle of Madshus's Backcountry range, offering a perfect balance between off-piste capability and on-trail efficiency.
It is the big brother of the M50 and is often considered the quintessential versatile Nordic touring ski.
Madshus Panorama M55: The Intermediate Ski
| Feature | Detail |
| Sidecut | 68-55-62 mm |
| Waist | 55 mm (Wider than the M50) |
| Edges | Full-length steel edges (tip to tail), for maximum control on hard and icy snow. |
| Primary Objective | All-around backcountry ski. It excels in light powder and is narrow enough to maneuver, but wide enough to offer good float. |
| Grip | IntelliGrip® Transition model. This means it is designed to use removable climbing skins (often included in a package or sold separately) that anchor into a notch at the front of the ski. |
Compared to the M50
The M55 offers more stability and float than the M50, thanks to:
-
Its 55 mm waist (versus 50 mm for the M50). This extra width improves flotation in soft snow.
-
Its full-length steel edge (the M50 has edges that stop before the tip). This provides maximum control for turns and technical traverses.
In summary: If the M50 is the choice for skiers who do 50% on-trail/tracked and 50% easy off-piste, the M55 is ideal for skiers who do 80% varied off-piste and occasionally groomed trails.
📏 Length Recommendations (M55)
As with the M50, length is primarily based on your weight:
| Ski Length (cm) | Skier Weight (approx. kg) |
| 180 cm | Up to 57 kg (125 lbs) |
| 190 cm | 57 – 68 kg (125 – 150 lbs) |
| 195 cm | 66 – 79 kg (145 – 175 lbs) |
| 205 cm | 79 kg and up (175+ lbs) |
