Description

The Salomon RC7 eSkin is a classic cross-country ski designed for beginner to intermediate skiers looking for a balance between performance and simplicity. Its main feature is the use of skins, which eliminates the need for retaining wax (pusher).

Here's a detailed description of its technical features:

1. Grip and glide (eSkin technology)

  • eSKINGRIP+: The ski is equipped with 100% mohair skins. They provide a secure grip on ascents and a quiet, fluid glide on descents.

  • Modular: If you progress and want more speed, the skins can be manually replaced by eSkinRace inserts (more competition-oriented).

2. Construction and core

  • Densolite 2000 Core: A lightweight, homogeneous core composed of preformed Densolite foam and a fiberglass shell. This makes the ski responsive yet forgiving for those still working on their technique.

  • S-Cut sidecut: The shape is slightly enlarged to offer greater stability and control, particularly useful when changing direction or going downhill.

3. Sole and Finish

  • G3 sole: A reliable performance sole that ensures good speed on different types of snow.

  • World Cup finish: The ski benefits from a low-pressure stone finish that improves glide in all temperatures.

4. Binding system

  • Prolink Shift: The RC7 is usually sold in a pack with these mobile bindings. You can move them without tools:

    • Forward: For more grip (ideal for difficult climbs).

    • Backward: for better glide.

    • Position 0: For perfect balance.

In short: Why choose the RC7?

The RC7 is the ideal choice for the regular recreational skier. It's more stable than race models (like the S/Lab), but much more powerful and lighter than entry-level skis. It's a "ready to go" ski that adapts to almost any snow condition.

To choose the right Salomon RC7 eSkin size, the most important criterion is not your height, but your weight. That's what makes it possible to crush the skin just enough to grip on the way up, without it rubbing too much on the way down.

Here's the standard size guide for this model:

Ski length Weight of skier (kg)
180 cm 40 - 55 kg
188 cm 50 - 65 kg
196 cm 60 - 75 kg
201 cm 70 - 85 kg
206 cm 80 - 95+ kg

A few tips to help you narrow down your choice:

  • If you're between two sizes: * Choose the smaller size for better handling and easier grip (ideal if you're just starting out).

    • Choose the larger size for better glide, provided you have a fairly dynamic technical thrust.

  • The role of the Shift binding: * If you find that the ski grips poorly despite the right size, move the binding forward. If you feel the ski is dragging a little, move it back.
